Psychologist (Candidate Register)
I am a Psychologist (Candidate Register) in the province of Nova Scotia. I hold a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Psychology from Cape Breton University and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in experimental psychology with a specialization in cognition from McMaster University. After working as a research psychologist in the fields of military personnel research and educational psychology, I received a Master of Science in Counselling Psychology degree from the University of Calgary. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages from a strengths-based perspective.
I believe everyone possesses the strength and skills to reach their goals, and it is my role to support individuals on their journey to self-empowerment. Using a non-blaming approach, I may gently challenge thoughts and narratives that we (myself and the client) collaboratively identify as obstacles to feeling better. I believe that everyone is unique and knows themselves best; therefore sessions are tailored to an individual’s needs and the problem they are experiencing. I have training and experience in Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.
I have a special interest in working with individuals who are described by self or others as “socially anxious”, “shy”, or “withdrawn.” In a society that often rewards social confidence, I strive to create a welcoming and safe space for individuals to show up as they are. I also have a special interest in working with individuals who have religious or spiritual concerns, including feelings of doubt and fear of death. I am an LGBTQIA2S+ affirming therapist who believes everyone deserves a judgement free space to share and explore their beliefs.
